It wasn’t that long ago that Gervon Dexter was a Chicago Bear.

But as of Wednesday, the former Florida defensive tackle is set to spend at least the next four years with the Atlanta Falcons.

The NFC South side traded for Dexter back on August 30, and one month to the day later, Atlanta has elected to lock up his services for the long haul.

As ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, Dexter agreed to a 4-year, $78 million extension with the club, a deal that will include $46.5 million guaranteed.

Selected out of Florida in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Dexter quickly made a name for himself with the Bears. After appearing in all 17 games and getting warmed up with 20 total tackles and 2.5 sacks as a rookie, the 6-foot-6 tackle racked up 11 sacks and nearly 100 tackles combined over the course of the next two seasons.

With Dexter having become a well-known name around the league, the Falcons were the franchise that pursued his services the most this past offseason, ultimately dealing cornerback Clark Phillips III and a 2027 fifth-round pick for him. And thus far, Dexter has more than impressed, with his pressure rates ranking among the best in the league and the Falcons defense as a whole benefiting.

Of course, Dexter first made a name for himself in Gainesville, where he tallied over 100 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and even a pair of interceptions across a three-year career (2020-2022).
