Former Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker has reportedly found a new NFL opportunity.
A third-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, Hooker served as the backup for Jared Goff for two seasons, but was unfortunately released by the team during their final round of preseason cuts. While the ex-Vol gunslinger’s stint in the Motor City may not have ended the way he had hoped it would, his NFL journey isn’t over, as reports have surfaced that the Carolina Panthers intend to sign Hooker to their practice squad.
The move would move Hooker back closer to home, as he attended high school at James B. Guilford High in nearby Greensboro, North Carolina. It’s unlikely that Hooker will see any meaningful playing time in this season for the Panthers, but the move does offer him another opportunity to prove that he belongs on an NFL roster.
Hooker was the driving force behind the best season the Tennessee Volunteers have had in the last 20 years was 2022, when they rocketed out to an 8-0 start, and debuted at No. 1 in the nation in that year’s initial College Football Playoff rankings. And will always have the support of the Tennessee faithful.
