Ja’Marr Chase tosses DJ Turner’s helmet during massive Bengals practice scuffle

Ja’Marr Chase didn’t take long to show his midseason intensity. The former LSU star and perennial Pro Bowl wideout for the Cincinnati Bengals took exactly until the first practice of training camp to show everyone he was primed for the 2026 season.
The 5-time Pro Bowler and former Unanimous All-American at LSU let the late July heat get the best of him on Wednesday. With tempers already boiling beneath the surface throughout the whole practice, everything boiled over in one chaotic moment when Chase went at it with cornerbacks DJ Turner and Jalen Davis.
Turner, a former star corner at Michigan, and Davis, an ex-standout corner himself at Utah State, were in Chase’s way as the trio created quite the first-day firestorm at Bengals camp. According to the video of the scuffle, Chase ripped off and then tossed Turner’s helmet. He engaged in some intense chatter with some Cincinnati defensive players, then “flinched” at Davis, according to video posted by Jaron May of WLWT in Cincinnati.
If that wasn’t enough of a show for the first day of training camp, veteran Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had a zinger of a quote about the whole thing. Burrow likes the edge shown by Chase and Turner so early in camp.
“To an extent. When it starts to interrupt practice, not too much, but if you can maybe punch somebody in the face in about 15 to 20 seconds, and then get back lined up, that’s probably ideal,” Burrow said.
Chase’s latest antics aside, the Bengals will be competing this fall in the rugged AFC North for the division title that they couldn’t win last season.
