When the New York Giants selected former Ole Miss Rebels‘ star quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall pick in this past spring’s NFL Draft, the question on everybody’s mind up in the Big Apple was how long it would take for the team to feel comfortable enough to give him the reins of the offense.
Dart possessed all the talent in the world, but every draft analyst viewed him as a project-type quarterback who needed some development before he was fully ready to become a full-time NFL starter under center.
After a brutal 0-3 start to their season, however, the Giants’ coaching staff/front office are starting to feel the pressure, and as such, believe they can’t wait around any longer for Dart to mature on the bench.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, New York has reportedly benched veteran starter Russel Wilson and is planning to start Dart for the first time in a regular-season game this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Dart was impressive in the 3 preseason appearances he made for the G-Men, completing 32 of his 47 passes for 307 yards and 3 touchdowns, but now he’ll be thrown into the real fire against one of the better defensive units in all of pro football.
The former Rebels’ gunslinger rose to the occasion time and time again while he was in charge of the Ole Miss offense; now, he’ll have to do the same for New York in hopes of saving their failing season.
