Original story:
Justin Fields had to be carted off the field at New York Jets practice Thursday morning. According to reports, Fields appeared to be dealing with a lower leg injury.
Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the injury occurred after Fields rolled right and threw a short pass to the tight end. Fields sat on the ground before limping off the field with a trainer’s assistance. The quarterback then went into the injury tent and a cart arrived to transport him to the locker room. Cimini notes Fields walked into the team facility.
Fields is entering his 5th NFL season. He signed a 2-year, $40 million deal with New York in the offseason to take over as the Jets’ starting quarterback.
A former Ohio State and Georgia quarterback, Fields began his career with the Chicago Bears, who selected him No. 11 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent 3 seasons in Chicago before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In his career, Fields has played in 50 games, making 44 starts. Last season, he played in 10 games for Pittsburgh, making 6 starts. Fields posted the best completion percentage (65.8%) and passer rating (93.3) of his career in his season with the Steelers.
