Former LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte showed out in a big way Sunday in the AFC Divisional Playoffs, hauling in an incredible one-handed touchdown catch for the New England Patriots against the Houston Texans.
Boutte reeled in the 32-yard touchdown grab from Drake Maye with just his right hand early in the fourth quarter, beating Texas defensive back Derek Stingley Jr. despite tight coverage.
ESPN’s Joe Buck said the highlight-reel grab was Boutte’s first one-handed touchdown catch of his career. The reception was also Boutte’s seventh touchdown catch in what has been a breakout season for the third-year pro. Boutte entered Sunday’s playoff game having notched 33 catches for 551 yards and six scores in the regular season and then a four-catch, 66-yard performance against the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Wild Card round.
Boutte has caught 78 passes for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns entering Sunday after being selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Patriots with the 187th overall pick.
Boutte played at LSU from 2020-22, recording 131 receptions for 1,781 yards and 16 touchdowns. His nine TDs as a sophomore was a career-best, and his 735 receiving yards in 2020 was the best campaign as a Tiger.
