Former Mizzou Tigers star Luther Burden III was seen walking gingerly off the practice field with an athletic trainer on Saturday. The Bears WR appeared to take a shot to the midsection, which caused an awkward landing.
On Sunday afternoon, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Burden suffered a groin injury and will miss “a little bit of time.”
While far from ideal for the former Tigers WR, it appears Burden has avoided a season-ending injury acccording to Rapoport’s report. Exactly how much time Burden will miss is tough to tell based on the information available. Groin injuries can linger and Burden’s calling card is his explosiveness and abnormal ability to make defenders miss after the catch, so it would be wise for Chicago not to rush him back into action.
The NFL regular season kicks off on Sept. 9, which is about 4 weeks from now. The Bears play their first game on Sept. 13 against Carolina.
Burden is set for a monster second season with former Bears WR DJ Moore now in Buffalo. Burden became a favorite target of QB Caleb Williams at the end of last season, and he’s a threat to snag the WR1 role in Chicago.
