Alberto Mendoza was celebrating with his older brother Fernando and their Indiana teammates after the Hoosiers won the program’s first national championship.
By Tuesday morning, he was in the transfer portal. But it didn’t take long for him to announce where he was headed next. Mendoza has committed to Georgia Tech, he revealed to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Mendoza, who redshirted in 2024, threw for 286 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games in 2025. Both he and Fernando recorded a passing touchdown against Kennesaw State. No set of brothers who played for the same team had done that at the FBS level in a decade.
A three-star recruit in 2024, Alberto Mendoza signed with Indiana as part of Curt Cignetti’s first recruiting class as Hoosiers head coach. That paved the way for Fernando to sign with Indiana out of the transfer portal and lead Indiana to a history-making season.
Now, as the older Mendoza will almost certainly declare for the NFL Draft, the younger Mendoza will join another program in transition at the QB spot. After the departures of starter Haynes King (exhausted eligibility) and Aaron Philo (transfer portal), Georgia Tech’s quarterback room now contains Mendoza, Graham Knowles, and 2026 high school signee Cole Bergeron.
