Colin Simmons has shown throughout the 2026 season to be one of the best defensive players in the country, and a huge reason why the Texas defense is as good as there is in college football. However, the Longhorns star was forced to leave the game against Florida after suffering an apparent lower-body injury.

Simmons had to be helped off the field after clutching his knee in pain for minute or two.

Entering the game on Saturday, Simmons entered the game with 17 tackles and 9.5 sacks. In the win against Tennessee in Week 4, Simmons tied a school-record with five sacks while the team had 10.

Simmons is the type of player who forces opposing offenses to know where he is at all times, and he makes his teammates’ jobs so much easier.

The Longhorns will hope to have him come back in the game, but they have more issues as they currently are trailing the Florida Gators 20-17 midway through the fourth quarter. They were ranked No. 1 last week heading into the game against Oklahoma, but they are in a situation where they could lose a second consecutive game if they are unable to get things rolling late.

Expect to hear more about Simmons following Saturday’s game. Let’s see if the Longhorns can protect home field.
