New York Mets troll Jayden Daniels after win over Washington Nationals

It’s not clear if there will be any legal battle over Jayden Daniels’ cease-and-desist letter to LSU, but the former Tiger quarterback is not doing well in the court of public opinion.
The New York Mets are having a disappointing 2026 season, as they are last in the NL East at 54-69. They don’t get to do too much trolling, but they got one off at Daniels’ expense on Friday night.
The Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 4-1 on Friday. The team account joked that the Mets only scored 4 runs to avoid any trouble with Daniels.

At first glance, fans might assume it’s a Washington, D.C. troll. Both the Nationals and Daniels’ Washington Commanders play in the nation’s capital. The Mets, though, had more personal reasons for targeting Daniels.
As pointed out by Awful Announcing, Daniels took joy in the Mets’ misfortunes last year. Daniels, a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, found amusement in the Mets missing the MLB playoffs.

Daniels is reportedly unhappy that LSU cornerback DJ Pickett is wearing No. 5 without the former Tiger quarterback’s blessing. While Daniels cannot legally stop Pickett from wearing No. 5, he sent a cease-and-desist to LSU demanding the school not use his name, image or likeness. Daniels played at LSU in 2022 and ’23, winning the Heisman Trophy in his final season with the Tigers.
