Chicago Bears defensive back Tyrique Stevenson probably won’t enjoy meetings in the coming days.

The second-year man out of Miami was on the field for Washington’s Hail Mary pass from Jayden Daniels that won the game in walk-off fashion. But he wasn’t exactly paying attention when the ball was snapped. Instead, he was seen near the sideline taunting Commanders fans. For nearly 5 seconds after Jayden Daniels received the snap, Stevenson was completely unaware of the play going on behind him.

When he turned and realized there were Washington receivers running toward the endzone, he started tracking Daniels. When the pass arrived, it was Stevenson who tipped it to Noah Brown for the touchdown.

ESPN NFL analyst Benjamin Solak also broke down the play immediately after and showed that Stevenson was likely the man responsible for covering Brown at the back of the scrum.

The throw officially went for 52 yards and it was Daniels’ only touchdown throw of the game.

Chicago took the lead on a Roschon Johnson run with 25 seconds remaining, capping a 10-play, 62-yard drive that took 3:56 off the clock and likely should have delivered the Bears their fifth win.

Instead, Daniels picked up quick completions of 11 and 13 yards to move Washington from its own 24 to the 48 to set up the Hail Mary play. In pulling off the incredible win, Daniels seemingly locked up an Offensive Rookie of the Year award and maybe even inserted himself into the MVP discussion.

Washington moved to 6-2 with the victory. The Commanders will exit Week 8 atop the NFC East. If Daniels hoists some hardware at the end of the season, maybe he should send Stevenson a “thank you” card.
