Bill Belichick reportedly sends 400-page proposal to UNC, but will not compromise
Bill Belichick has delivered his terms to become North Carolina’s next head football coach, according a report.
Per Ollie Connolly, the legendary NFL coach has “agreed” to become North Carolina’s next head coach if the university signs off on his 400-page proposal that has been described as an “organizational bible.”
Crucially, Connolly’s report also states that Belichick is “unwilling to negotiate” on the terms he has delivered. He expects to know a decision from North Carolina “within 24 hours.”
Connolly’s report also said Belichick’s proposal would require a “significant investment” in North Carolina football and would need to be approved by stakeholders such as UNC’s athletic director, chancellor, trustees and boosters.
Connolly previously reported that one sticking point for Belichick would be that his son, Washington defensive coordinator Stephen Belichick, be named coach-in-waiting as part of the deal.
North Carolina is seeking a replacement for head coach Mack Brown, who led the Tar Heels to 6 consecutive bowl games before being fired last month. He’s the all-time winningest coach in program history.
If hired, Belichick, 72, would be the oldest active FBS head coach. He hasn’t coached at the collegiate level before, but has decades of NFL experience that includes 6 Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots.
If Belichick doesn’t ultimately become UNC’s next head coach, it’s unclear where the Tar Heels would turn to next in their search to replace Brown. Jon Sumrall, who reportedly interviewed with the program last week, has since agreed to a new deal with Tulane.
