Jeremiyah Love explodes for 98-yard TD, gives Notre Dame early CFP lead

Jeremiyah Love hit the Silverado-sized hole on the left side of the line, beat Indiana to the sideline, and made the first touchdown of the 12-team College Football Playoff era a memorable one.
The Notre Dame tailback exploded for a 98-yard touchdown run that put Notre Dame up 7-0 on Indiana after 4 minutes of play. The run tied a 2015 record for the longest run in a game in Notre Dame history.
Notre Dame and Indiana traded interceptions prior to Love’s home run. Quarterback Riley Leonard’s first pass of the game was tipped and picked off by Indiana’s D’Angelo Ponds, setting the Hoosiers up on Notre Dame’s side of the 50.
Four plays later, Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke was picked off by Xavier Watts to give the ball right back to the Fighting Irish.
Love, a Heisman candidate in 2025, could be in line for a big game in the opening round of the CFP. Notre Dame’s offensive identity is that of a ground-and-pound unit, utilizing a 3-headed monster on the ground to wear teams down.
He shares the workload with Leonard and third-year back Jadarian Price. Love entered Friday night’s game leading the team in rushing, with 949 yards and 15 touchdowns on 134 carries.
The first-quarter touchdown officially pushes Love over 1,000 yards on the season. It’s the fourth time in the last 5 years Notre Dame has had a 1,000-yard rusher.
