Andrel Anthony is the latest Oklahoma wide receiver to enter the transfer portal, according to a report.
That’s per On3’s Hayes Fawcett, who shared that news on Wednesday morning. With Anthony set to transfer, he would be the 5th Oklahoma receiver to enter the portal so far this offseason, joining JJ Hester, Nic Anderson, Jalil Farooq and Jaquaize Pettaway.
Anthony missed almost the entire 2024 season as he continued to recover from an ACL injury he suffered in 2023. Prior to hurting his knee, Anthony was enjoying the best season of his collegiate career with the Sooners. He was Dillon Gabriel’s leading receiver that season (prior to the injury) and totaled 27 catches for 429 yards and 1 touchdown.
Oklahoma battled injury issues at wide receiver all season long. Its top 5 wideouts missed most of — if not entirely — the 2024 campaign with various injuries. With Hester, Anthony, Anderson, Farooq and Pettaway now in the portal, that leaves a thin group to build from going into 2025.
Deion Burks, OU’s top transfer addition from last season, has yet to announce his plans for 2025. Jayden Gibson, who suffered a season-ending injury in fall camp, could also return to Norman next season. Beyond that duo, it’s likely the Sooners will be aggressive in adding WR talent via the portal this offseason. OU’s leading receiver this season was tight end Bauer Sharp — who is also in the portal — at just 324 yards.
Oklahoma will face Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 27.
