Hugh Freeze did not get the win on Saturday, but he leaves Oxford appreciative of his return experience.

Freeze was back on the Vaught-Hemingway sidelines Saturday as the coach of the Liberty Flames. Ole Miss defeated the Flames 27-14 as Liberty’s second-half comeback fell short after trailing 24-0 at the break.

After the game, Freeze was emotional when thanking Ole Miss fans for welcoming him back.

“To Ole Miss people, thank you for your kindness to me and my family,” Freeze told reporters in his postgame press conference. “The reception from Ole Miss people at the hotel in Tupelo and as we were walking in (to the stadium), they were incredibly kind. It’s an answered prayer for Jill and I. I’m thankful.”

Freeze is 25-9 in 2-plus seasons at Liberty, leading the Flames to back-to-back bowl wins.
