Jamie Erdahl couldn’t have known what Lane Kiffin was going to say during her pregame interview with the Ole Miss head coach on the CBS coverage of this past Saturday’s game against Alabama. It turned out to be a comment that would be in the news all weekend.

“Well, let’s hope we didn’t run out of pages. So, here we go, get your popcorn ready,” Kiffin said, immediately taking off the headset and running off.

Kiffin has since apologized to Erdahl to make it clear that he wasn’t trying to be disrespectful or rude. On Tuesday, Erdahl addressed Kiffin’s apology in a video shared on her Instagram story, and she made it clear that she didn’t take the brief interview personal.

“In the world of things I never thought I’d have to talk about, I’m here to talk about popcorn,” Erdahl said in the video. “Yeah, Coach Kiffin reached out to apologize, but as I said back to him, it didn’t bother me at all. I thought it was great TV. Clearly it was, since we’re all still talking about it. It had nothing to do with me, that whole response to my question. People saying that it was disrespectful to me, I really did not take it that way. I just wish it had been a better day for Ole Miss football. But it’s not a thing. That’s my popcorn TED Talk.”

As Erdahl alluded to, Ole Miss didn’t follow through on Kiffin’s message. Alabama scored the first 35 points of the game on its way to a commanding 42-21 victory.

Still, the Rebels are 3-1 and have the potential for a strong season. And who knows what other notable comments Kiffin will make along the way.

Ole Miss will look to bounce back this Saturday when it hosts Arkansas at noon ET on ESPN.
