Josh Pate emphasizes the importance of Ole Miss’ early-season matchup at Tulane

Josh Pate tackled an interesting topic in the latest edition of his show, The Late Kick Live. While discussing the biggest “hinge” games of the upcoming 2023 college football season, Pate pointed out that few are bigger than Ole Miss’ road matchup against Tulane on September 9.
Pate argued that Tulane may be the Group of 5’s best chance at being a playoff buster this season, especially so with the departures of Cincinnati, UCF and the other usual strong G5 programs to the Big 12 and so on.
Obviously, September 9 is also a huge game for the Rebels. Not only do you have to travel to New Orleans, but you have to a take on a Green Wave team that beat USC in the Cotton Bowl last season while finishing with a 12-2 record. Did we mention the Green Wave return star QB Michael Pratt and a strong offensive line?

Ole Miss’s schedule, being one from an SEC West team, did not need the added difficulty of a road game against one of the country’s top G5 programs. However, it will say a lot about Lane Kiffin’s squad should the Rebels take care of business as many expect them to.
Two weeks later, the Rebels travel to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide, followed by a trip back to Oxford for a date with the LSU Tigers.
