Lane Kiffin commends Jaxson Dart for decision to play in Gator Bowl: ‘It’s who he is’
Lane Kiffin was not surprised to hear Jaxson Dart intends to finish out his Ole Miss career by suiting up for the Rebels one last time in the Gator Bowl.
While many college football stars may choose to opt out of bowl season, Dart won’t be among them. Kiffin called Dart an “unbelievable leader” when discussing his decision on Tuesday morning.
“It’s who he is. When I asked him, he didn’t even blink. ‘Of course I’m playing.’ It’s who he is,” Kiffin said. “Unbelievable leader, friend, and teammate to these guys. I think of him as another son to me. It’s been awesome to see him grow and how he treats people. It’s amazing. I am really proud of him.”
As for other potential opt-outs, Kiffin said he isn’t currently aware of anyone planning to opt-out of the game.
“As of today, we’ve had conversations with all the guys and no one has said they’re not playing,” Kiffin added. “There’s still a lot of time between now and the game but it seems like it’s headed in that direction.”
Dart became Ole Miss’s all-time leader in passing yards earlier this season. Dart and Eli Manning are the only Ole Miss players all-time to clear 10,000 passing yards in a career.
