Lane Kiffin was the most talked-about coach in college football during Rivalry Week, and much of the chatter wasn’t about the Egg Bowl.
Early in the week, rumors swirled that Kiffin was the top target to be Auburn’s next head coach. There was even chatter of Kiffin being introduced as Auburn’s new coach on Friday.
Kiffin ultimately decided to remain at Ole Miss. He’s reportedly signing a new 8-year deal that will pay him $9 million per year.
ESPN’s Chris Low shared a brief comment from Kiffin on Saturday via Twitter. Kiffin explained that he told his team he would be staying in Oxford before Thursday’s game against Mississippi State. He did not want his decision to overshadow the Egg Bowl rivalry clash.
Lane Kiffin told ESPN this morning he’s staying at @OleMissFB and signing an extension. “I had a meeting with the team and the staff and told them I was staying and it would be announced after the game. I didn’t want it to be about me staying before the game, but about the team.”

Kiffin was active on Twitter Saturday morning. He praised Low’s reporting while calling out Mississippi TV reporter Jon Sokoloff. On Monday, Sokoloff reported that Kiffin would be resigning to take the Auburn job.
