Lane Kiffin on South Carolina potentially jumping Ole Miss: ‘Why do we even play the games?’

Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels capped off the 2024 regular season with a record of 9-3 after knocking off the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 26-14 in the Egg Bowl.
There are 3 teams in the SEC with a 9-3 record that all have an outside chance of making the College Football Playoff, and the Rebels are 1 of them. Joining the Rebels in that discussion is Alabama, and arguably the hottest team in all of college football right now, South Carolina.
Kiffin was asked about what if South Carolina jumped Ole Miss and made the CFP, and the Rebels coach responded in type Kiffin fashion.
“I have great respect for South Carolina,” Kiffin said. “South Carolina jumping us? Why do we even play the games? We have the same record in the same conference. We went to their place and ran them out of their place.”
The game Kiffin is talking about was a 27-3 win by Ole Miss at South Carolina in Week 6. The Rebels dominated that game from the very beginning, as they took a 14-0 lead after the 1st quarter and coasted to the win.

Since that game, the Rebels are 4-2 with losses LSU and Florida, while South Carolina is 6-1 with their only loss being a 27-25 loss at Alabama. It is a conversation that will be talked about moving forward, but the CFP rankings that get released on Tuesday will go a long way in determining where the committee is leading.
