Lane Kiffin weighs in on fourth-down decisions in loss to Alabama

Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels wanted to send a message to No. 1 Alabama on Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.
The Rebels came out and marched the ball down into Alabama’s red zone. Then, on a fourth-down play, they went for it and … failed.
The next drive, the Rebels again faced fourth down and went for it. And again, they failed.
The Rebels had 3 turnovers on downs in the first half, but if he could do it all over again, Kiffin said after the game that he’d do it the same way:
โOne hundred percent you go for it,” he said. “Thatโs the other way. A lot of people donโt do it because itโs scared money. When youโre at the blackjack table and you have $5, itโs easy. Put a couple thousand out there and now you get scared. I said we werenโt going to do that.โ
As far as putting his defense in less-than-ideal situations, Kiffin said Alabama’s offense is so good it wouldn’t have mattered:
โYou can punt and then theyโll score,โKiffin said. โThey scored on every possession but one in the first half. I know it looks bad when it doesnโt work but when you punt it away, it just takes longer for them to score.โ
Here’s all of what Kiffin had to say in his postgame press conference:
