Ole Miss got another win in the transfer portal Friday when it was announced that former Akron Zips running back Jordon Simmons was transferring to join the Rebels.
This marks the third destination of his college career for the 6-foot-2, 192-pounder. He hopped on the freshman scene with the Michigan State Spartans in 2020, leading the squad in rushing yards with a total of 219 with 56 Carries (second-highest on the team).
He’s officially signed with Ole Miss, according to On3’s Pete Nakos:
Simmons, a junior, finished out the season with 110 carries for 664 yards with a pair of touchdowns, also reeling in 21 receptions for 183 yards. He’ll be able to contribute greatly not only to the ground game in Oxford, but clearly is a versatile asset out of the backfield for the team as well.
Simmons had 3 contests in which he surpassed the century mark in rushing total as one of the most important players on Akron’s offense.
It will be interesting to see how he’s able to raise his stock as he joins a team known for offensive mastermind Lane Kiffin and his high-scoring system that so many players have done numbers in. If he thrives in the SEC against tougher competition, there’s no question his draft stock will skyrocket.
Simmons has 1 year of eligibility remaining.
