Ole Miss running back Matt Jones took to social media to announce his plans for Ole Miss’ bowl game and the 2025 season. The longtime Rebel penned a letter to Rebel Nation declaring that he will “finish the season strong,” and will then enter the transfer portal for his final year of eligibility.

“Thank you for all you have done for me and my family these past 4 years,” Jones wrote. “Words cannot describe how thankful I am to have been a part of this community and program. To Coach Smith and Coach Kiffin, thank you for your guidance and for providing me with this opportunity. I will finish this season strong with my brothers.”

Jones’ statement confirms the RB will play in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl against Duke.

“With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal as a grad transfer with 1 year of eligibility remaining! Thank you and Hotty Toddy forever!” he wrote.

In 2024, Jones rushed 44 times for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns while splitting carries with Henry Parrish Jr., Ulysses Bentley IV, and Domonique Thomas. The RB also caught 3 passes for 13 yards on the season.

Overall, Jones took 59 carries for 308 yards and 6 TDs over parts of 3 seasons with the Rebels. Now, he will look to make his mark at a different school in his final collegiate season.

Jones was lightly recruited out of Jackson Prep in Flowood, MS. The 247Sports Composite ranking had Jones without a star-rating and he walked on at Ole Miss before later earning a scholarship.
