The Carolina Panthers have reportedly cut ties with former Ole Miss OL Michael Oher, according to the team’s Twitter account.

The team released the ex-Rebel after he failed a physical, likely due to a concussion he suffered last season that has had him in the NFL’s concussion protocol since September.

Oher missed 13 games due to the concussion last season and has yet to be cleared to return to action:

The timing of Oher’s release is significant, though, as it comes just days after he passionately defended fired general manager David Gettleman in an Instagram post:

“Guy really cares about you as a person just not the player also his always interested in how your family is as well,” Oher wrote. “Hated to hear that news but I know he’ll be fine. And for the people downstairs who are happy and had something to do with it downstairs, Karma’s a MF!!”

Oher was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2012 and has also played for the Tennessee Titans before signing with the Panthers prior to the 2015 season.

Whether or not he can return from his concussion remains to be seen, but if he does return, it won’t be with the Panthers.
