I almost didn’t finish this in time. I stayed up all night laughing at Playoff darling Wisconsin losing to visiting BYU.

On that and a lot more from Week 3 in and around the SEC …

10. You think Florida is in trouble …

What the heck has happened to Florida State?

Worse, the Seminoles have none of the excuses the Gators have, and they just lost to a bad Syracuse team playing its backup quarterback … 30-7?

You know the last time Syracuse won an ACC game by 23 or more points? That would be 2014, at Wake Forest.

There is nothing in Clemson’s way of an undefeated march to the Playoff.

9. If you believed in Wisconsin, that’s a you problem

I tried to warn you.

I look forward to seeing the Badgers back in the top 10 of the 2019 preseason poll after “finding their stride” over the next month or so.

8. Did we sleep on Kentucky?

I know, I know, the Wildcats have started like this before, too.

They were 5-1 in 2014 — one play from beating Florida and being 6-0. They were 4-1 in 2015 — one play from beating Florida and being 5-0. They were 5-1 in 2017 — one play from beating Florida and being 6-0.

They are 3-0 in 2018 — and already have beaten Florida.

This feels different. For all of the preseason questions about Terry Wilson, he looks like a guy Oregon would recruit, you know, back when Oregon was actually good, too.

I’m beginning to believe they could be 7-1 (and ranked) when they host Georgia in Week 10. If they are, that also would mean they have 5 SEC wins, guaranteeing their first winning SEC record since 1977.

7. I don’t even know who coaches Kansas, but give him a lifetime contract

Kansas blasted Rutgers of the Big Ten on Saturday, giving it back-to-back victories for the first time since 2011.

Heck, the Jayhawks (2-1) already have won more games than they did in 2017 and 2015 and 2012. The last time Kansas won more than 4 games was 2009.

The coach is David Beaty, and he’s actually under contract through 2021. Why? His AD started extending him not long after his 0-12 debut in 2015. Why? He inherited the worst program in America and the progress was visible, if not immediate on the scoreboard.

Most of the preseason coverage of the Jayhawks centered around a pending coaching search that might not come to be.

Sorry, Sam.

6. Mecole Hardman is the most exciting player in college football

Hardman scored 2 more touchdowns Saturday — one on a simple 5-yard catch, the other on a 70-yard punt return that he made look simple.

Hardman has scored in each of Georgia’s first three games. It’s hard to see that streak slowing down next week at Mizzou.

5. Arkansas, are you kidding me?

Chad Morris is an easy target on this, but this isn’t on the coaching staff. At some point, you have to be your own coach on the field.

I would think that point comes shortly after you put on an SEC football helmet.

Related: It’s probably a good thing Arkansas doesn’t play against Mecole Hardman.

4. The Playoff field is …

No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Clemson. Just outside: No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 6 Ohio State.

(P.S. Oh, Auburn. You got me again. You are the ultimate tease. And the best/worst part is you’re not done. You’re not out of this. Our dance continues …)

3. Vandy deserved better

Kyle Shurmur delivered the signature performance of his career. Trailing 22-17, 4th-and-4 at Notre Dame’s 31, on the road, late, he delivered the perfect ball to favorite target Kalija Lipscomb. What almost was a first down instead became a painful pass breakup/drop.

That play likely will be lost in a season’s worth of what-ifs, but a catch would have given Vandy a first down near the red zone with 2 minutes left.

It would have given Shurmur a chance to shock Notre Dame, before a national TV audience and Touchdown Jesus.

Instead, Shurmur had to settle for his fourth 300-yard passing game in his past eight outings, dating to last season.

In terms of start to finish development, it’s hard to argue with how far he’s come.

SEC fans who have been paying attention have known that for a while. It was nice to see him play well on a national stage.

2. Why does Nick Saban ever send a kicker on the field?

If the National Championship Game scare didn’t change his mind, I’m not real sure what will.

The Tide missed 9 field goals last season — including the potential title-winner in regulation. Among SEC teams, only LSU (11) and South Carolina (13) missed more. LSU addressed its problem … and Saturday Cole Tracy rewarded the Tigers by kicking a game-winning field goal at Auburn.

Alabama already has missed two this season and it has missed more extra points than the rest of the league combined.

It’s all one big, funny joke until somebody gets hurt.

1. The Legend of Joe Burrow is greauxing

What a performance. Hot, cold, volcanic. Kind of like his head coach’s seat, only reversed.

LSU was done, except there’s no give up in Ed Orgeron. Only giddy-up. Boy did they.

All summer, we lamented poor LSU and that daunting schedule. Maybe now it’s time to start pitying the teams that have to tangle with the Tigers.
