The 2020 college football season is sure to be an unusual one in the era of COVID-19 and social distancing.

That means things could get wacky when it comes to the College Football Playoff, with unlikely teams potentially making runs to the field of 4.

On Saturday morning’s episode of College GameDay on ESPN, each analyst picked a “longshot” team they think can make it to the Playoff. Three of the analysts picked SEC squads:

  • David Pollack: Florida
  • Desmond Howard: LSU
  • Rece Davis: Texas A&M

It says a lot about the defending champion Tigers that they’d be considered a “longshot,” but that just speaks to how much talent they lost to the NFL and to opt-outs.

Florida might not be much of a “longshot,” as the Gators are favored by many to win the SEC East. As far as A&M goes, Davis had them at No. 4 in his AP Poll, so he’s higher on the Aggies than anyone else.

Who did the other analysts pick? Kirk Herbstreit picked Miami out of the ACC and Chris “Bear” Fallica picked Iowa State out of the Big 12.

Will any of those teams make the Playoff field? We’ll see which teams get off to strong starts this fall.
