5 SEC quarterbacks named semifinalists for Davey O’Brien Award

Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral both appear to be in the running for the Heisman Trophy this season. But that’s not the only award that the pair of SEC quarterbacks is battling for.

Young and Corral were among the 20 QBs named semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award on Tuesday. The group was determined by voting from the award’s selection committee and by fans on social media.

There were 5 SEC quarterbacks named semifinalists, as Georgia’s Stetson Bennett, Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker and Mississippi State’s Will Rogers also made the list.

Corral is 1 of 4 quarterbacks who is a semifinalist for the second straight year, along with North Carolina’s Sam Howell, Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall and Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder.

From here, the field will be cut down to 3 finalists, who will be announced on Nov. 23 after voting from the selection committee and fans on social media again takes place. The winner of the award will then be announced on Dec. 9 on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
