AP Top 25 voters have weighed in on the top teams in college football after Championship Weekend, ahead of the College Football Playoff reveal. When it comes to the hottest topic in the college football world, media members side with Alabama over SMU.

In the latest AP Top 25, SMU falls behind Alabama following the Mustangs’ loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game, their second of the 2024 season.

If the CFP selection committee were to rank the teams the same as the AP Poll, No. 11 Alabama would take the 11-seed. No. 12 SMU would be the first team out of the team, as the 12-seed would go to Clemson, one of the 5 highest-ranked conference champions. It’s important to keep in mind that the expectation is that the CFP committee will keep SMU ahead of Alabama, as betting odds strongly favor the Mustangs making the 12-team field.

Other notable changes in the AP Top 25 include Georgia moving up to No. 2 following its SEC Championship overtime win over Texas. The Longhorns slide from No. 2 to No. 4 in the new AP Poll. Notre Dame moved up to the No. 3 spot, the spot formerly held by Penn State. The highest possible seed for the Irish in the CFP is the 5-seed, as the top 4 seeds will go to the highest-ranked conference champions.
