Recently, the College Football Playoff Management Committee was put together, and on Wednesday, the new group had a phone conference with vice president Mike Pence.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby was on the call, and afterwards, he shared a statement with CBS Sports.

Bowlsby said he and the other commissioners don’t want to start up sports again until all students can return to campus:

“Our players are students,” Bowlsby said. “If we’re not in college, we’re not having contests. Our message was, we need to get universities and colleges back open, that we were education-based programs, and we weren’t going to have sports until we had something closer to normal college going on.”

That’s a lofty goal, but one that seems like a good idea to attain. We’ll see what Pence, the committee and others in charge of reopening the country ultimately decide.
