Boo Corrigan joined the College Football Playoff selection show on Sunday to break down the decision to include Alabama in the Playoff over Florida State.

Corrigan, a member of the selection committee chair, didn’t shy away from talking about how hard the decision was. He said they went through the process 6 to 8 times before making a decision.

In one of the most controversial selection shows in CFP history, Alabama earned the final spot in the Playoff over Florida State. The Tide beat Georgia in the SEC Championship Saturday, but Florida State capped off an undefeated season with an ACC Championship win over Louisville.

A major factor in the decision to leave Florida State out is the Seminoles’ health. Obviously starting quarterback Jordan Travis is out of the season, and Florida State had to rely on its third-string quarterback in the ACC Championship. Ultimately, the absence of Travis was enough to keep the Seminoles out of the Playoff.

“We had 8 really good teams this year. Somewhat of a unique year,” Corrigan said. “Looking at the player availability was really important to what was going on. I think someone said you can lose a RB, you could lose a WR, but a QB as dynamic as Jordan Travis, it changes their offense in its entirety, and that was a really big factor as the committee went through everything.”

Corrigan credit Florida State for a great season, but he ultimately said that the Seminoles aren’t the same team now that they were earlier in the season.

“I think in looking at it — and again, that was a decision with Alabama at 4,” Corrigan said. “And Florida State is a different team than they were through the first 11 weeks. And Coach Norvell, their players, their fans. An incredible season, but as you look at who they are as a team right now without Jordan Travis, without the offensive dynamic he brings, they are a different team. And the committee voted Alabama 4 and FSU 5.”
