It is the slowest time of the year for college sports fans, but with SEC Media Days coming in July and college football teams resuming practice in August, the college football season isn’t too far away. Preseason rankings, without the popular way-too-early qualifier, will soon dominate the conversation among fans.

The 2019 edition of CFB expert Phil Steele’s annual preview magazine hit newsstands this week. Steele names his top 40 teams for the season, but it’s his top 25 that is currently making the rounds on social media thanks to the Twitter account CFB Home.

In a Florida-focused breakdown of the rankings, Bob Redman of Swamp247 mentions that South Carolina made the cut for Steele’s top 40, checking in at No. 40. Redman also notes that a non-SEC Florida foe, Florida State, is ranked No. 30.

If the Associated Press voters agree with Steele, we may be in for a ranked showdown to kick off the season when Florida and Miami face off in Orlando on Aug. 24.
