Charles Huff has been around some truly elite football teams during his time as a coach. Now, he’s ready to put Ohio State in the conversation of being the best in the history of college football.

On Saturday, Huff’s Marshall program took on the Buckeyes in Columbus, and it was actually the Thundering Herd who scored first with a textbook opening drive. However, it did not take long for Ryan Day’s program to grab control of the action and build a strong lead.

The Buckeyes eventually cruised to a 49-14 win with some big-time offensive numbers, led by the rushing attack of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson. Huff was asked after the game if he still believes Ohio State can be one of the best teams ever, and he did not hesitate.

“Ever. Ever. Offensively, absolutely. And defensively they smother you,” said Huff about Ohio State’s prospects. “They kind of just lay on you and weigh you down… They laid on us long enough to wear us down offensively.”

Huff’s best comments came for the Ohio State offense when he compared that unit to 2019 LSU and 2020 Alabama. For context, those 2 teams each produced a Heisman Trophy winner and won the national championship.

“Offensively, I don’t know — I mean, 2019 LSU, 2020 Alabama,” Huff said when it comes to OSU’s ceiling. “They’re probably in that realm. They’re really good. They’re really good. We didn’t make it hard on them today, but they’re really good. Hats off to them.”

“I don’t know if they need to stay healthy, probably just put their 5th guy in there,” Huff claimed about OSU’s depth.

Before anyone thinks Huff is strictly speaking in hyperbole, he did see those LSU and Alabama teams up close. He was on Alabama’s staff in 2019-20, so he faced the Joe Burrow-led Tigers in 2019 and was a part of Nick Saban’s staff when DeVonta Smith, Mac Jones and Najee Harris led an electric Alabama group to the title.
