It’s still early in the season, but one college football coach is coming down especially hard on himself.

Southern Miss last week lost to 31-7 against South Alabama, one of the lower tier teams in the Sun Belt. This week the Golden Eagles play host to Grambling State. But in light of the loss, Southern Miss head coach Will Hall referred to himself as the program’s “biggest fraud” of the last half-century after losing in his debut, theScore reported.

“I hope our guys are excited. I’m not excited; my life’s on the line,” Hall said. He added, “I feel like every day I wake up that since I’ve gotten here, I’ve let a lot of people down, and we’ve got to overcome that. We’ve got to play better. Because right now, I’m probably the biggest fraud to come through this place in the last 50 years.”

Even Lane Kiffin tried to turn his outlook around, and tweeted, “deep breath, good luck this weekend.”

Hall is the latest to fill a seemingly ever-changing head coaching position at Southern Miss.

Southern Miss hired Hall on the heels of the 2020 season in which the team went 3-7 and played for 3 different head coaches. Jay Hopson resigned after one game – also a loss to South Alabama – and interim replacement Scotty Walden left for Austin Peay in October, which put Tim Billings at the helm for the final 5 games.
