It’s the second time GameDay has featured the Georgia-Texas matchup this season. The teams met in Austin in Week 8.
Round 1 went to Georgia in a 30-15 game. The Bulldogs stunned the Longhorns, jumping out to a 23-0 lead in the 1st half. Texas scored 15 points in the 3rd quarter, but could not trim the lead further as UGA added 1 more touchdown in the 4th quarter.
Since the Oct. 19 meeting, the Longhorns have won 5 in a row against SEC opponents to enter the conference title game with an 11-1 record. The Bulldogs, which first lost to Alabama in September, picked up a second SEC road loss in November at Ole Miss. Kirby Smart’s squad has bounced back and enters the conference championship 10-2 on a 3-game winning streak.
Georgia and Texas are both likely to make the College Football Playoff regardless of the outcome in Atlanta. The SEC champion, though, is in line to claim one of the 4 first-round byes.
The SEC Championship Game is set for a 4 p.m. ET kickoff, airing on ABC.
