The man responsible for a racially-charged comment on social media that appeared to target Florida State coach Willie Taggart was suspended by his employer.

Hilton Grand Vacations has suspended an employee, the Tallahassee Democrat reported, following a post after Florida’s 41-14 win over the Seminoles.

The antebellum image depicted Taggart’s face atop the body of a black man hanging from a tree. Taggart, just finished his first season with the Seminoles, is the first black head football coach in the university’s history. The team had a losing, 5-7, record and is ineligible for a bowl game for the first time in more than three decades, which snapped the longest bowl streak in the country.

“Our concern regarding this situation is a top priority,” said Lauren George, a spokeswoman for Hilton Garden Vacations, based in Orlando. “The team member responsible has been suspended while further action is being considered. We want to ensure all Team Members’ behavior is consistent with our values and code of conduct.”

The company did not name the employee, but he has a history of going after black coaches.

FSU President John Thrasher called the social media post “ignorant and despicable” on Twitter Sunday.

“I speak for the entire FSU community in expressing our disgust and extreme disappointment, and I am glad the state attorney is investigating. Coach Taggart has our full support and as true Seminoles know, he is a respected member of the FSU family.”
