The Egg Bowl has been typically played on Thanksgiving since 2017, and it looks like that’s not going to change for at least another year. According to 247Sports, Ole Miss will host Mississippi State in Oxford on Nov. 28, 2024, Thanksgiving Day. The Rebels won last month’s Thanksgiving meeting in Starkville 17-7, notching a 10th win in the regular season.

The Egg Bowl Thanksgiving tradition started in 1905 and was continued through 1911. Then, after a few years off it was picked up again in 1918. The tradition continued from 1926-1932, and then 1937. Lastly, there was a long break before starting again in 1969-1971.

The tradition picked back up last decade, with a 2013 Thanksgiving meeting and then 2017-19 games on the holiday. The date changed during the shortened 2020 season, as it was played on a Saturday instead. However, it’s gone back to Thanksgiving for the last 3 years.

Football has become a part of Thanksgiving in college and the NFL. This past Thanksgiving, there were 3 NFL games played, with another game on Black Friday.

Fans can expect a lot of food and football next Thanksgiving, and that includes the Egg Bowl too as the Rebels and Bulldogs will face off once again.
