Believe it or not, ESPN College GameDay is headed to New York City next weekend.

The show could be missing out on some good SEC matchups on Sept. 23 provided some teams win this weekend. If Mississippi State were to upset LSU, the Bulldogs trip to Georgia next week would have been a good choice. Also, while many will be picking against Kentucky this weekend, if they get past South Carolina — UK has won three in a row in the series, an undefeated Wildcat team would be attempting to end the 30-year streak in Lexington against the Gators.

Perhaps due to a lack of marquee matchups on the college football calendar, the ESPN pregame show will make its first ever trip to the Big Apple next weekend and plans to air live Times Square — not at a college campus leading up to a big game.

Will any college football fans show up? Certainly some will but this experiment will be interesting, to say the least. In a released statement, show host Kirk Herbstreit sounds excited at the opportunity to take the show to New York for the first time.

“This is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, for us and the fans. With iconic Times Square as the backdrop and alumni bases from all over the country making their presence known in the crowd, my expectation is that it will be one of the top College GameDay settings of all time. We can’t wait to bring the show to the Big Apple!”
