ESPN college football analyst David Pollack issued his thoughts on the College Football Playoff during Thursday’s College Football Awards Show in Atlanta.

The former Georgia All-American defender will certainly be interested to see his former school compete for a shot at the national championship.

However, Pollack doesn’t think Georgia is the favorite.

“I’d go Clemson,” Pollack said, according to Brad Crawford of 247Sports. “Clemson’s defensive line is dirty, by far the most talented front in the country. (They got) guys who can two-gap and consistently rush the passer. I would lean Clemson because down the stretch they’ve been the most complete team. I don’t think Clemson’s secondary has been tested that much. I think when they get tested, maybe Oklahoma in the championship game, that’s their weakness.”

Clemson is the defending national champion after beating Alabama 35-31 to win last year’s national title. It will face the Crimson Tide again on Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

Despite Alabama being the Vegas betting favorite, Pollack doesn’t like the Tide’s chances, Crawford pointed out.

“(Quarterback Jalen) Hurts has not proven his consistency,” Pollack said. “Just when I thought he was gaining traction, he took several steps back in the Auburn game.”
