Fans, media react to firings of Jimbo Fisher and Zach Arnett after Week 11 matchup
Jimbo Fisher and Zach Arnett received an unfortunate distinction coming out of Week 11. After facing off on Saturday, the two head coaches were officially fired by their respective programs coming out of the weekend.
First, it was Texas A&M parting ways with Jimbo Fisher Sunday morning. Despite a buyout approaching $80 million and a 51-10 win over MSU, the Aggies pulled the plug on the Fisher era with two games to go in the season. That was the first head coaching fire in the SEC this season.
On Monday, the Bulldogs followed suit by firing Arnett with a 4-6 record and less than a year into his tenure as head coach. Arnett was elevated to head coach following the tragic passing of Mike Leach, but there’s no denying the struggles of MSU on the field.
Regardless of how we got here, it is certainly an unusual time to see the head coaches from the same game fired on the same weekend. Still, that’s where MSU and Texas A&M find themselves with Week 12 on deck, and here’s how fans and media across the country reacted to the situation:

Is this the first time in college football history that two head coaches having been fired, mid-season, in the days following their game against one another?
Texas A&M beat Mississippi State 51-10 on Saturday. Jimbo Fisher out on Sunday. Zach Arnett out on Monday.

Did Mississippi state fire Zach Arnett to make a run at Jimbo Fisher after learning he had become available?

So Jimbo Fisher’s last act as head coach of Texas A&M was getting Zach Arnett fired? https://t.co/CrXRnpStaJ

Jimbo Fisher wins a game by 40+ to Mississippi State. TAMU fires Jimbo first and first year coach, Zach Arnett gets fired by State the next day. And Jimbo walks away with 76 million dollars.
That is quite the weekend.

So Jimbo Fisher & Zach Arnett were both fired by Texas A&M & Mississippi State less than 48 hours after they coached against one another.
Has that ever happened before?#HailState #GigEm

Feel bad for Zach Arnett. Took over Mississippi State under difficult circumstances and should have been given a little more time IMO.
Jimbo Fisher on the other hand… https://t.co/xNP1mMNYKO
