Former Georgia coach Jim Donnan appeared on “The Paul Finebaum Show” Friday in a phone interview. During the interview, host Paul Finebaum brought up one of the most talked-about topics from SEC Media Days: Tennessee’s hiring of Jeremy Pruitt.

For those who may have missed the media brouhaha of the past few days, former Georgia QB Aaron Murray told a Nashville radio station that he wasn’t sold on Pruitt as a head coach. Fellow former Bulldog David Pollack chimed in and called Pruitt disrespectful of former UGA coach Mark Richt. Murray and Pollack are both college football analysts and expected to have opinions about coaches and players, but it’s fair to question if their loyalty to Richt affected their opinions of Pruitt.

Not surprisingly, Nick Saban and his former assistants who are now SEC head coaches (Jimbo Fisher, Kirby Smart and Will Muschamp) all praised UT’s decision to hire Pruitt when asked during SEC Media Days.

Finebaum asked Donnan about Pruitt on Friday. The former Georgia coach, who preceded Richt, shared that he personally recommended the former Alabama defensive coordinator to Tennessee’s athletic director.

“I recommended Jeremy to Phillip Fulmer and I would recommend him to any football program in the country,” Donnan told Finebaum.

Donnan’s recommendation is interesting since he is seemingly a neutral party in the matter, neither a Richt loyalist nor part of the Saban coaching tree.
