Georgia and Alabama both briefly pursued Carson Beck in the transfer portal, according to a report.

That news comes via USA Today’s Matt Hayes, who reports that Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs were the first to reach out once Beck entered the portal. Beck previously announced intentions to enter the 2025 NFL Draft, but Hayes’ report says UGA was interested in a reunion once Beck decided to return to college football.

This runs somewhat contrary to a previous report from 247Sports that stated Georgia did not expect Beck back in 2025. That report also pointed toward a “sour” exit between the 2 parties with regards to how Beck handled his season-ending elbow injury while Georgia was still involved in the College Football Playoff.

Georgia was not the only SEC powerhouse to reach out to Beck after he entered the portal, however. Hayes’ report says Alabama also made contact with the ex-Bulldog. The Crimson Tide don’t have an experienced quarterback on their roster now that Jalen Milroe has opted to enter the 2025 NFL Draft.

Of course, Beck ended up committing to Miami after entering the transfer portal. He’ll replace Cam Ward and hope to have an improved season in 2025 after falling a bit below expectations with the Bulldogs this past fall.

Quarterback situations in Athens and Tuscaloosa remain uncertain with just a matter of weeks before spring practice is set to begin.
