Greg McElroy is a believer in the SEC in 2024.

The former Alabama QB said on his show Always College Football, that it would not be surprising to see “5 or more” SEC teams make the College Football Playoff this season.

“The SEC is going to pack the College Football Playoff and people are not going to like it,” McElroy declared.

McElroy explained that he now believes there will be more SEC teams in the Playoff than he initially thought this summer.

“I said in the preseason I think there’s going to be 5,” said McElroy. “Now, there’s a possibility that there’s more.”

The QB-turned-analyst then made a case for several SEC teams to make the Playoff.

Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee are the teams McElroy feels the most confident about, but Oklahoma and LSU got a mention as well.

“Oklahoma, I still think, even though they’ve struggled along the offensive line, they’re still a team with a lot of talent on defense,” McElroy explained. “What if LSU figures it out and gets things going?”

McElroy did mention that some of these teams will “beat each other up,” but in the era of the expanded Playoff, there’s more margin for error.

In the latest AP Top 25 poll, 6 of the top 10 slots are held by SEC teams.
