Greg McElroy responds to critics by calling out CFP committee's inconsistent rankings
Greg McElroy started quite the discussion with his take on Oregon’s College Football Playoff ranking Tuesday night.
The ESPN personality called it “irritating” of the CFP selection committee to rank Oregon at No. 6. McElroy feels the Playoff committee is being inconsistent with which teams are being ranked by resume and which teams are being ranked by resume.
Fans on social media were quick to point out that McElroy ranked Oregon No. 6 after the Week 10 games.
My TOP 6⃣ teams right now ⤵️
1. @UMichFootball
2. @GeorgiaFootball
3. @FSUFootball
4. @UW_Football
5. @OhioStateFB
6. @oregonfootball pic.twitter.com/b9dhlmocmW— Greg McElroy (@GregMcElroy) November 6, 2023
McElroy defended his positions as compatible. McElroy says that his top 6 is consistently ranked on eye test, which leads him to slot Oregon at No. 6. He pointed out that he has Ohio State at No. 5 instead of No. 1 like the committee.
McElroy further argued that if the committee is going to justify Ohio State at No. 1 due to its resume, then Texas should be No. 6 instead of Oregon.
Lotta folks thinking they “got me” with this. You’re proving my point.
Below is my personal ranking… I value EYE TEST above all else.. Which is why Michigan is #1, UGA #2, Ohio St. #5, Oregon #6, etc. My Ranking is consistent 1-6 with Eye Test the exclusive differentiator.… https://t.co/p9hALs9aYv
