As Southern Cal prepares to play host to Notre Dame this week, coach Clay Helton’s job status is in jeopardy as the Trojans have slipped to 5-6.

What’s more, USC last week lost to cross-town rival UCLA 34-27 as the Bruins improved to just 3-8. Despite public backing from AD Lynn Swann, Helton’s future remains uncertain.

Given that situation, names have circulated about potential successors should Helton and USC part ways soon.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports this week said that he’s heard two names about the Trojans job: Jeff Fisher and Jack Del Rio, who are both USC alums and former NFL coaches.

A host of other coaches have been mentioned for the possible open job, most recently Penn State’s James Franklin.
