Joey Chestnut sets staggering world record in pre-Big Ten Championship event

Joey Chestnut has a knack for setting world eating records. Now, he can claim another record-setting victory after taking part in an Indianapolis event leading up to the Big Ten Championship.
This event involved Indy’s St. Elmo Steak House and their legendary shrimp cocktail. St. Elmo’s is the oldest steakhouse in Indianapolis and a staple to the area.
The shrimp cocktail produced by St. Elmo’s is especially legendary, known for its signature heat in the sauce. Simply completing one serving is an accomplishment for some customers, but Chestnut took things to another level.
During Saturday’s event, Chestnut gobbled down a staggering 21 pounds of the shrimp cocktail — sauce and all. It produced a grotesque scene all things considered but goes down as another world record for Chestnut.

The heavy eater is most well-known for his regular appearances at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, but Chestnut has ventured into the world of football before. He made an appearance at Ole Miss’s wild spring showcase that was more of a circus of mix-and-match events than any sort of spring game. Chestnut also appeared at an Atlanta Falcons game this season to take part in a free hot dog giveaway.
