Kirk Herbstreit names top-performing coaches of Week 7
Kirk Herbstreit recently named his top performing coaches from Week 7 and Tennessee’s tandem made the cut after the upset victory against Alabama.
Herbstreit shouted out head coach Josh Heupel and offensive coordinator Alex Golesh for their roles in Tennessee’s first victory vs. Alabama in 15 years. Herbstreit also praised Oklahoma offense coordinator Jeff Lebby after the Sooners’ 52-42 victory against Kansas in which they tallied an eye-popping 701 total yards.

Chase McGrath converted the game-winning 40-yard field goal as time expired.
The 38-year-old Golesh, who joined Heupel from UCF, devised an excellent offensive game plan. All five of Hendon Hooker’s touchdowns went to Jalin Hyatt. During Hyatt’s legendary performance, he collected six receptions for 207 yards with five touchdowns, with a long of 78 yards.
In 2021, Heupel inherited a Tennessee squad which went 3-7 in the final season under Jeremy Pruitt. Additionally, key players such as now-Alabama linebacker Henry To’o To’o hit the transfer portal. Last season, Heupel got the Vols to over .500 with a 7-6 record. Now, Tennessee is up to No. 3 in the nation after a 6-0 start and 3-0 record in the SEC.
Next up for Tennessee is a home matchup against UT Martin on Saturday (12 p.m. ET/SEC Network).
