Urban Meyer was placed on administrative leave by Ohio State as the school announced it was investigating the allegations that he knew about his former assistant coach’s alleged domestic abuse in 2015.

Meyer, of course, told the media at Big Ten Media Days that he didn’t know anything about those in 2015. CFB insider Brett McMurphy’s reporting attempts to prove otherwise, although there is no direct evidence that Meyer knew. There is evidence, however, that Meyer’s wife, Shelley, knew.

ESPN’s Laura Rutledge, a host on the SEC Network, explained the real tragedy in the whole situation: Courtney Smith.

“What’s not alleged is that she (Courtney Smith) is a victim of domestic violence, and domestic violence is not a troubled marriage. It’s not some sort of marital issue that can be solved by counseling. It’s a crime.”

Rutledge continued, “What’s tragic about this situation is that Courtney Smith dealt with domestic violence for an extended period of time. A serial offender of domestic violence. She called the police nine times. That’s the tragedy in this, not what could happen with Urban Meyer’s job.”
