Miami tight end Cam McCormick told reporters on Tuesday that he intends to pursue a 9th year of collegiate eligibility.

McCormick, who transferred to Miami from Oregon in the offseason, previously had his 9th year approved by the Pac-12. However, McCormick said he will now petition the ACC for an additional year of eligibility.

McCormick could be granted an additional year of eligibility due to a number of injuries that he’s dealt with throughout this career. He missed all of his 2019 and 2020 campaigns due to injury. He also missed the vast majority of the 2018 and 2021 seasons for injury reasons.

Here’s a breakdown of his first 8 seasons in college football:

  • 2016: Redshirted
  • 2017: Played in 13 games for Oregon
  • 2018: Suffered season-ending injury in 1st game of the season
  • 2019: Missed season due to injury
  • 2020: Missed season due to injury
  • 2021: Played in 2 games before suffering season-ending injury
  • 2022: Played in 13 games for Oregon
  • 2023: Has played in all 3 of Miami’s games to start the season

McCormick was a 3-star prospect in the class of 2016. He’s from Bend, Oregon.

McCormick has played a part in Miami’s offense early on in 2023. He has 2 catches for 28 yards so far this season.
