Missouri president Tim Wolfe announces resignation
University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe announced his resignation on Monday, stemming from the ongoing on-campus boycott involving several football players.
Here’s what he said:
Wolfe: “my motivation in making this decision comes from love. I love MU and the state of Missouri, where I grew up.”
— David Morrison (@DavidCMorrison) November 9, 2015
Wolfe: the frustration and anger I see is real, clear and I don’t doubt it for a second. Mentioned the football team — David Morrison (@DavidCMorrison) November 9, 2015
Wolfe: it is my belief we stopped listening to each other. We forced individuals like Jonathan Butler to take immediate steps.
— David Morrison (@DavidCMorrison) November 9, 2015
Wolfe: this is not the way change comes about. We have to respect each other enough to stop yelling at each other, stop intimidating. — David Morrison (@DavidCMorrison) November 9, 2015
Wolfe: I take full responsibility. Use my resignation to heal and start talking again. And make the changes necessary.
— David Morrison (@DavidCMorrison) November 9, 2015
Wolfe: my decision to resign comes out of love, not hate. Wolfe choking up as he reads Psalm 46:1. — David Morrison (@DavidCMorrison) November 9, 2015
More on the story involving Missouri players refusing to participate in football-related activities until Tim Wolfe is removed by the university in light of a racially-charged boycott:
This guy doesn’t deserve to lose his job because African-Americans on campus think they deserve to be treated better than white people because of the past.
better? We’ve gotta get to 100% equality first. There is a disparity between whites and minorities in almost every category imaginable. Everything from average household income to living environment. The studies have been done and there is cold solid proof. You don’t have to acknowledge it, but that doesn’t make it go away
Income is a measure of how much your fellow man values what you do.
You talk about income equality and living equality as if it is something that can be handed to the black population. It’s not. Black kids need to stop dropping out of high school. Getting grades at or better than those of white kids and other minorities. Getting into schools on academic scholarships rather than athletic ones so they can concentrate on learning and becoming valuable in the workplace. It’s no one’s fault that home values in predominantly black neighborhoods are garbage. People need to take ownership of that issue and work towards solving the issue. It’s nothing that will be fixed by composing and making noise. Striking so this man (who did nothing) loses his job gets them nowhere. I hope they all high five each other and get back to studying for class.
jbrown, people also need to stop supporting barriers to entry into the economy. Minimum wage laws and licensing laws are especially harmful to minority communities.
That’s what I’m talking about. Affirmative Action isn’t enough to get black kids into college? The new American Dream is to sit on your ass and have everything handed to you because you feel too pressed to do anything about your own situation.
Blacks were at a significant disadvantage from day 1. many of the largest institutions across this country were created using slave money. Land that was owned by slavers, handed down through the generation. While we were fighting for civil rights, our counterparts were teaching the next generation how to take over their businesses and preparing funds for them. Equality is an illusion that many are unable to see through because you’ve never been subjected to life on the other sides. Until something changes, the name of the game will be “woe is me”. We will complain about not having a fair chance, and the opposition will enjoy what we wish we could EARN (not just be handed) while telling us we all have the same opportunity.
boss hog, can you tell us what 100% equality would look like? I ask this question honestly because I am trying to understand the disconnect we all seem to have here.
I agree. It seems the new generation wants everything handed to them. There will never be 100 percent equality for everyone. Someone will always be on the other end on the stick so to say. It is up to each individual to make the best of their lives. Some people are born and their parents are trash so they just don’t have a chance. I call it home training, or what my momma says you should know better. Some people just don’t have that. They think because what color they are they are entitled to certain things. My experience in life is that no one is entitled to anything and I have had to scratch and claw for everything I have. Life is what you make of it. If you want to act like a thug and think you will be treated equal is wrong. That goes for white or black or whatever race you are. I seen it in school and in jobs, the so called quotas are alive and well. The sad truth is that most people getting these equal opportunity jobs and education don’t deserve it. People know the truth sometimes and are just afraid to say it. Seems like it is easy if you fail at something, get fired, or commit a crime….somehow the race card always makes an appearance.
Way to go Pinkel and all your babies. Ruined an innocent man’s career over nothing. This entire embarrassing event will only cause more racial divide, not less. I hereby no longer support my alma mater.
First time in my life I have been ashamed of an SEC institution. Lunacy carries the day and destroys a good man and severely damages that football program.
this isn’t and never was about affirmative action. it was about his refusal to address serious racism issues like people writing a swastika in feces on dorms, racial slurs, etc. he refused to engage in dialogue with the students. he also had black students arrested at a parade when they confronted him in his car about why he refuses to address the hate that has always existed on campus.
To the best of my knowledge none of the protesters in front of his car were arrested.
None of what you just said is true.
I’ve never been more ashamed of the University of Missouri.
That’s sad dude.. If it was my university, I would feel the same as you.. The only way to respond is the same way they did – boycott.. Empty seats.. Don’t just hire 10% minorities, let them have it all.. See how that turns out
I’m going to stage my own relentless protest against Missouri leaders who caved into this starting now.
At least he said what pretty much everyone outside of Mizzou is thinking….this will change NOTHING. It won’t suddenly make it sunshine and rainbows in Mizzou. If anything it’ll piss off the racists and make them worse. The only hope is that this will calm down the protesting students with their demands and will allow both sides to talk about what needs to be done in a civil manner.
I agree. Welcome to the Obama generation. There is always gonna be stupid people writing swastikas and making slurs, ain’t gonna change. Look at Ferguson Missouri, wonder how life is there with their hero Michael Brown. Just gonna get worse. My guess things were not as peaceful as reported when they confronted the university presidents car. Just like everytime a thug gets shot it seems like everyone always says what a good angel they was and how they would give the shirt off their back. Yeah right.
Up!! All well. There you have it. “Canadians” – 1 , Mizzou – 0
And yet after from what I’ve seen around social media the majority of Mizzou students are pissed at this group trying to bring race into everything.
Well that didn’t take too long. As someone who watched the protests and flag issue in Columbia, SC recently, I hope everything gets resolved peacefully and with both sides working together for a better future instead of slinging dirt and hate at each other. Praying for y’all Mizzou.
It used to be M-I-Z-Z-O-U. Now its B-E-N-D O-V-E-R. And they did. No more respect for that university or Gary Pinkle for his stupid, damaging comments.
agree, they just didn’t make a legit case.
Quick, everyone transfer to Mizzou because it’s now all about diversity and equality. Wait, what? You mean he WAS working on a diversity retention strategic plan that was supposed to be released next April but he still was working with different committees on campus to ensure it was fully inclusive of ALL people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, etc.? But because the football players are having a crap season, they decide to protest and get a man fired. The only person that deserves any respect is the now former president who stepped down to prevent further escalation of this issue, although he’s been working on it since stepping on campus.
No! Don’t use facts! Facts are the mobs biggest enemy!
Ditto
Great Job mizzou, now that he resigns racism is gone, everyone can hold hands and sing songs and eat again………sad way of bullying.
The Ferguson, Missouri protest model is also effective on the University Campus!
I see a lot of hurt feelings on this thread. It’s done, get over it. No school can win without black players. At the end of the day the only color that matters is green as in money. If any school wants the money they do what is necessary. Right now what is necessary is the president resigning to keep those black players happy. A lot of undercover racist on this site. As long as the black players help your team win you all kiss their a$$especially, the minute they exercise their rights your true colors show. I’ll say a prayer for all of you.
Yuuuuuuup. And they’re barely undercover. That’s one of the problems of it being the SOUTHeastern conference.
The gate is wide open for you to leave Coozie if you don’t like the South.
Take off those Sanders2016 glasses and look at the situation objectively. Just because they have different opinions than you doesn’t mean their racist. That’s what you liberals do, hide behind the flimsy walls of racism. Instead of seeking progress between Black and White, they use “White Privelage” as a battle cry. If you are immature enough to not listen to the other side, then you are the problem, not the solution.
Take a ride somewhere else Coozie. You won’t be missed here.
Go live in nice peaceful Chicago where they agree with your nonsense.. See how that works out for you
Chicago,Detroit, Los Angeles, new york, Atlanta, or even Ferguson Missouri. I am sure you will be safe of any crimes or people wanting to do you harm. Tell us how it goes.
People are afraid to say it but blacks are the most racist people out there. It’s always about race. Get pulled over, it’s because they was black but not the fact they was doing 80 in a 55. Get fired from a job it’s because they was black not the fact that they was always late to work and was lazy. Not get a A in school it’s because they are black not the fact that they didn’t show up for class or study. Always someone else’s fault but their own.
at least your racism isnt undercover though amirite? good on you for being upfront about it. We get it, you hate the white man and its all his fault right? lmfao GFY racist pos….
Nice reach there but he’s one of the only people that has posted on this that hasn’t seemed hateful.
Hate is what happens when anyone disagrees with a liberal.
But if we exercise our right to free speech, here comes the “racist” diatribe.. Ok ok you win.. Don’t stop at us all admitting “white privlege” and demanding a higher percentage of black faculty.. Take it all.. U of Mizzou 100% black.. You happy now?
You’re part of the 20% of the Alabama fan base that Nick Saban hates.
You’re part of the group that 100% of the SEC hates. Quit using Saban as a rally cry to further your own agenda. You don’t know what he thinks, so quit flapping your ignorant mouth.
Winning is not all that important. Honor is important. Anyone who takes sides with false accusations has no honor.
Yes. That is why I am ashamed of Pinkel. He sold out to keep his recruits coming instead of doing the right thing. His press conference was disgraceful. This was not about “saving a kids life”. That is what paramedics and doctors could have done. This was about keeping recruits coming , damn the consequences.
a reverse lynching just took place in Columbia……
It’s amazing how much some of you are disconnected with the world nowadays. It isn’t moonlight and magnolias anymore. Even if this guy stepping down doesn’t directly change anything, the fact that people stood up to racism will. Gotta look at the bigger picture folks, and I know that’s hard for some/most of you. Instead of instantly throwing out the views of others (because you’re probably racist yourself) take an unbiased look around and try to learn something.
There’s nothing about your post that is ‘unbiased’. You have been fed racist propaganda from the far left. You are the one that is in a disconnect from your world, anyway. When you sit there in the stadium next time, I hope you realize that there’s 64,000 AA, Asian and White God fearing Christians that pay for you to sit there and beat your drum. You do play the ungrateful, entitled child very well, though I must admit.
“It isn’t moonlight and magnolias anymore.” Really? What the H3ll does that mean anyway?
“Instead of instantly throwing out the views of others (because you’re probably racist yourself) take an unbiased look around and try to learn something.” Have you tried that? It appears not.
“It isn’t moonlight and magnolias anymore. ”
When was it “moonlight and magnolias”?
How did they stand up to racism? There will always be racism I hate to tell you. The president of the university can not control how people act and behave. You think things are better now at U of Missouri?
I would see your posts before, and often agree, sometimes not, but when about football, they seemed sensible. But this is some condescending BS.
Who was being racist Coozie? Some line redneck driving down the road yelling the n-word? Some other unknown person putting a swastika on a wall ? Your going to hold an entire University responsible for a few dumb kids that mama didn’t raise right? This was a lynch mob against an innocent man and all if those involved should be ashamed.
The divide and regression this country has seen over the past 5 years is unbelievable. Everyone is entitled to everything and everyone is a racist. I think people need to look at Pinkel with some blame. I obviously could be completely wrong, but from what I have heard he just sat back and watched. He could have attempted to unite his football team, and went about this in a productive and respectable way. Not allow a bunch of babies publicly humiliate a man and get what they want. If this situation happened at Alabama, I guarantee Saban wouldn’t have put up with it.
What exactly could Saban do? If he pulled scholarships I guarantee he would never be able to recruit black players again. As long as they’re united, the players are the ones with the power in this situation.
The power will be in the green as you stated.. Attendance and donations will bottom out and Mizzou football will be gutted.. No white recruit will feel welcome there.. Congrats on your black power
You’re living up to the Alabama stereotype. Quit before you fall further behind.
You’re the only one who says he’s behind.
But BamaBacker is probably factually correct. I hope Mizzou didn’t make this decision for Wolfe out of financial concerns over what missing a football game or two might mean, or the rest of the season, or even losing minority recruits in the future. Because many previous supporters will likely view this as blatant coercion and it will cost them ticket and game day sales, viewership, probably some recruits, and maybe even university enrollees.
United minority players certainly do have the short term power. They used it to accomplish immediate goals. I hope they were aware of the long term ramifications. While they sought immediate removal of Wolfe and a quick fix laundry list to perceived and/or real racism, they have achieved immediate removal of Wolfe and likely aggravated race relations and possibly destroyed the long term health of their football program.
As for what Pinkel (or Saban, or any other coach for that matter) could do, I can only say what I would have done. Sit the whole team down and talk for however many hours we needed. Ask the team how each of them individually perceived the environment and recent events. Ask for ideas that might improve the situation that didn’t require coercion bordering on extortion. Ask if they got along with each other or if it was just pretend. We would have a difficult talk that a football team isn’t normally burdened with. But if my team is going to be thrust into the situation, and some of my players feel they are going to take a key role in coercing an outcome, then I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that the whole team has it out and we as a team decide how to present ourselves going forward. We may not be able to solve race relations in the country, but we damned well would give it a go within our team before a few decide to speak for and act for the whole.
I can only hope Pinkel did that. Given recent comments from some players, I doubt that was the case. It seems he took a very passive “I support your rights in general” type of stance.
Oh yes he would the almighty dollar of some people wanting to go to the NFL out weights everything else.
I see your point but who knows? Pinkel may have been directly or indirectly pressured to act as he did. Look what happens to public figures when they stand up against this stuff. The media would see to his destruction and the future destruction of any entity which might associate with him in the future. The student group, that was calling for the university president’s head, would certainly add Pinkel’s to the list. He’s in a no-win position which is exactly where this racial movement wants him and all of us to be in.
Hooray! Now these fools can go back to getting their butt kicked EVERY WEEK! They were probably quietly hoping that this thing would drag on for a bit, to save them some embarrassment on Saturdays.
Not EVERY week. But I wish it had been….. (Sad Gamecock fan face )
November 9th – mark it on your calendar. It will soon be a “progressive” holiday; the day adult decision making was pushed aside and a temper tantrum took down the Mizzou president.
you guys just really have no idea what this was all about. and if you don’t know, you never will. it’s pathetic how many of you people are on the wrong side of history. this was about hate. students were harassing other students because of the color of their skin. and the president wouldn’t stand up to these other students. he would not do his job. so, they protested. actual players and students who study there and were experiencing this forced this to happen. meanwhile, you people, who have no mizzou experience, are belittling a group of young people who used peaceful protest to remove a president who was refusing to take a stand against the hate that exists on campus. this is good for the SEC. this is positive.
The use of peaceful protest does not intrinsically make their cause right. The type of coercion chosen (as opposed to, say, direct threat of violence) is only the mechanism. The cause has to be judged independently of the mechanism. Forcing a president to retire by striking or forcing a president to retire by kidnapping his child are both forms of coercion (one legal, the other not). What is key is whether the cause was just. Was Wolfe doing all he could? Was he doing enough? Was he really refusing to take a stand (I don’t know, not a student there)?
State grad, watch the video and ask yourself if you wouldn’t be pissed at the dismissal. Sometimes folks just want to know they are not being ignored.
That video is just another example of childish behavior.
How do you know it was peaceful? Was you there? Was it as peaceful as Ferguson? Hate to tell you there is always gonna be hate and stupid people. This is America and I am free to say and live how I want. What happened to sticks and stones? Life is hard deal with it.
Fair enough. You seem to be more up to date on the situation, so maybe you can answer some questions that would help me understand what is going on.
1. What are the specific complaints?
2. Who are the perpetrators? Have they been identified by the accusers?
3. IF they have been identified by the accusers, was the incident completely ignored or was any action taken?
4 IF the perpetrators were not identified by the accusers, could an investigation reasonably be expected to identify the perp? and if so, was ANY investigation conducted?
5. What is the expected action to be taken against anyone found guilty of the complaints?
6. What policies were in place to address student conduct?
7. What are the policies the president failed to adhere to?
The reason I ask is because there has been very little in the way of reporting on the actual complaints other than that some racial slurs had been used and feces was used to paint a swastika on a wall. Specifically, the reporting has gone along the lines of… “some people yelled racial slurs from a moving truck”, “students blocked the president’s vehicle and he wouldn’t talk to them” and “a drunk white student yelled the n-word”. Yes, it’s a shame that this is still going on in the 21st century. But investigating vague statements and incidents have limitations.
you’re onto them
That is way too much reasoning for them to understand..
Dan, your argument is why it’s hard for the common man to take on big business. You bury it in protocol. Simply, if a grade school is having problems with bullying, they listen, make a plan, and and address the whole school… And punish the guilty of caught. Why is that hard to understand. They don’t just say “yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.”
Protocol? If, at a minimum, you are not asking/answering the basic questions above, you don’t know enough about the situation to be informed. At this point, all that is being reported is vague allegations of racism and a bunch of students held their breath until they got what they wanted.
examples? I’ve looked online and only read about the feces swastika (which is more the sign of mentally challenged person than a straight up racist). Is the fact that the president wouldn’t stop and listen to protesters during the parade? I see what the black lives matter people love dialogue as long as you agree to all their demands.
There is no wrong side of history here. Its 2015, not 1965. We have a black president. People aren’t against skin color they are against ignorance.
Google the video where Wolfe is confronted by protesters at an event and in the car at Homecoming. Then, imagine the authorities would not listen to you when you had a beef with your HOA or city government or other.
don, you may want to look further into the story than you have. This did not start because some kids were harassed on campus. It started because the University did not immediately come out and echo the mob during the Ferguson situation. The incidents since (which could be found anywhere in the US) were used to add fuel to the fire. It’s being assumed a white person smeared a swastika on the wall. They don’t know who did it. The protesters are wearing shirts with black power symbols. There is way more to this story than what is being reported. If the atmosphere in this country is what it is being reported as, I would expect to see blacks being dragged through the streets, burning crosses on front yards, and a bunch of idiots running around in white masks. But this is not reality. Being called a name is not a legitimate reason to protest. I, a white man, have been called the same word by black people. The same word that most of them hear repeated in the music they listen to everyday and use as part of their regular vernacular. A word that the NFL felt the need to create a rule for because of the prevalence of its use. Every time we try to move towards some utopian ideal, the closer we get to dystopia.
America does not negotiate with terrorists…….oh wait wrong topic
Im sure many of you have never heard of Lloyd Gaines. He was the first black man admitted to the University of Missouri and he never finished. He was kidnapped and never seen again. Its still an open case. And many of those same racial undertones have accumulated to today’s situation thru neglect. To say that opposing racism isnt worth standing up for is ridiculous and spine-less. Im proud of these students-athelets for using this stage to address this problem on this campus. Can you come up with a better strategy to get results so swift? Like it or not, sports is the bridge for white America to engage with the black communities. If not for sports how much would you care, know or understand anything about black history, culture, lifestyle, intellect. Now consider how little you really know as a sports fan. Next look into your own community, ask yourself what do you actually know about the black folks living across town that are not involved with sports. We are all guilty of neglect for not correcting today’s disparities from yesterday’s racism. Simple neglect perpetuates the privileges of the past. Standing ovation to the entire University of Missouri!
So black history is the only one that counts? Hate to tell you the Indians have had it worse than anyone out there? In fact, tell me the last time you actually met a full blooded Indian. Just because someones feelings get hurt now someone has to pay huh? Grow up life is hard.
Inventing racism and turning it into more power for one race vs. another race is nothing to be proud of
Inventing racism? Wolf, really? Have you ever been out with black friends? Are you oblivious to the reality out there? Could there not be hope that a university would do something to try and educate this behavior back to the Stone Age? Maybe try? Or just blow it off?
White people are the minority now. If you don’t think so you’re just as brained washed as the rest of the idiots
Not sure your point but you’re way off, the last census was 77.7% white (62.6% when hispanics who describe themselves as white are subtracted).
The reason you may think that is this country will now bend over backwards for the few even if it does not benefit the many.
… And protection of the few is what makes America great… Not like… Sadam Hussain and the Kurds, for instance.
As a white kid at Mizzou, I heard my unfair share of racial epithets slung about like it was nothing. It bothered me. It exists. Nearly 30 years later, it doesn’t surprise me that it still exists. And I know it exists in certain circles at other schools as well, especially in the current racial environment, which is a divisive as I’ve ever seen it.
Does it need attention? Absolutely. Does getting the president of the university fired accomplish it? Doubtful. But it certainly brings attention to the problem. And certainly sends a message to those who get paid to address it that being glib and ignoring it will not stand. I am tired of entitlement behavior too. But respect is a right to be entitled to and no one should live their life with anything less. I can’t imagine what might have happened if instead Mr. Wolfe had taken a sincere path from the outset.
Pinked backed his team, a team he asks to go out there and bust their ass for him, including risking injury. Is he really supposed to put other motivation in front of that? Would you follow a military leader who did that? Should you sacrifice your dignity because you have a scholarship? Would you? These are not the kind of folks you want on… or leading… your football team. And doing nothing at all NEVER works.
Are white people the only ones that are racist and use racial slurs? Can you control what someone else does? Will this change anything at all at Missouri? I don’t think so.
Let me be more clear. If you are a leader and you ignore or gaslight complaints, you are fostering and perpetuating the behavior. This angers the complaintants. It’s his JOB to listen, not walk away, not ignore. Listen. There has to be at least an environment created that something is being done about it. Otherwise people get pissed. When that do, this happens. Will it change things? What’s the effing alternative?
And how do you stop someone from making a racial slur? Blacks call each other the n word all the time. Do you just limit that to white people then? My guess U of Missouri probably has 10 to 15 thousand students or more. How do you control what they do or don’t do with out offending someone. Please enlighten us.
Brian, no ones asking them to control anyone. There was a complaint to the person you make grievances to who was glib and condescending. Watch the video. And…
I am fat. I can call myself fat if I like. I might even let a family member call me fat. But if you call me fat, I might take serious offense. Nonetheless, no one should use that word.
You are only guessing the man didn’t care. He might of just got out of a meeting and had a bad day. Everyone has bad days. No one knows but him and the people close to him how he feels. There are proper channels to go thru but calling racial slurs and someone writing a swastika on a wall, you are always gonna have stupid people, always. Just because you watch a 10 second video were someone seems not to care doesn’t mean anything. Has a family member ever asked you a serious question and caught you when you were busy and you brushed them off, my guess is yes. Don’t judge by a short video when you don’t have no clue to how he is.
Not sure that I agree with respect being a right. I tend to agree more often than not with the old saying “respect is earned.”
Being treated like a human being is a right. Being treated with respect…? I think that depends on your actions.
Respectfully, I think you’re splitting hairs.
How is he splitting hairs? I to think respect is earned not given. Now make sure you don’t offend anyone.
sorry Kelly, can’t agree this time. Pinkel backed a small vocal minority of his team. Pinkel put one race complaints ahead of all other race opinions. Pinkel threw his boss under the bus and it will come back to him. WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE WOLFE DID ANYTHING RACIST ? NO ONE HAS PRODUCED IT YET.
Wolf, I respect your right to your opinion. But a couple of thoughts. First, go and look at the video of Wolfe being confronted. I watched it several times. He was glib and dismissive from the beginning; that’s insulting to anyone who has a beef. No one said he was racist. And that was not the claim. They said he was dismissive inattentive and not doing his job in addressing concerns of the students.
We have a tendency to view the world through “white-colored” glasses. We don’t want to believe we have problems at home. But to deny it is wrong. Are Mizzou’s problems worse than any other school? No. But After I got over my defensiveness, I realized we are doing something right here. Other points I have already made above.
You saw probably 20 seconds of video that your judging him about without fully knowing what he did or how he feels. People draw too many conclusions from watching the media’s stand point. How would you react if a crowd of angry people confronted you? I am sure he felt his safety was in jeopardy as well.
The age of entitlement and the downward spiral of this country continues.
exactly.
People are indeed entitled to dignity. Your thinking this is about kids on scholarship getting their way. That is just a smokescreen for examining what this really is.
Are you smoking crack boss hog? Blacks have made the decision to drop out of school, become/cause pregnant as a teen, sell drugs, commit crime, and raise children in single parent homes far more than any other race. These are ALL decisions that blacks make, not Mizzou president Wolfe, but the individual. How about the black community? Do they hold these kids accountable for their actions or look the other way and cry “white privilege”? Look at oriental immigrants who came to this country with no money and not even able to speak English, yet within one generation they own the store and outperform white students academically. Why? Because they worked hard, kept the family intact and expected the children to work/study hard as well. In other words, they’ve been working/studying hard while Mizzou students have been whining about sh!t on the wall!!!!
Black kids going to college to better themselves does not quite fit the profile you’ve outlined above. As of October 25, 2012 Mizzou’s graduation rate is 84% of their student athletes, third in the SEC.
And how many of them are black? You forgot a tid bit of useful knowledge. I am sure that 84 percent includes every sport not just football and basketball.
I’m not getting into the long and useless argument on here. I just have a question. When does my white privilege kick in? Do I need to go pick it up somewhere? Because my broke, white ass is tired of working for scraps.
I want some too.
Racism is a big problem at every university, in every City and every state, and it is very real. What has taken place in Columbia MO. the last few days has not changed any of that. Anything that brings people together to work on this problem is a good thing unless it comes at the expense of others. I personally don’t believe the football team did the right thing here. I own a small Insurance agency that specializes in health insurance, I don’t like nor do I agree with most of what the affordable care act has done to our health care delivery system in this country, but I owe it to my clients to do my job to the best of my ability with what I am given. I think these football players owe it to the fans, their scholarship providers, and the Mizzou football program to do what is expected of them. I think it’s great that they use their visibility to voice their concerns and shed light on this issue. Unfortunately their actions may cause more harm then good based on the type of publicity this has created. Where is the leadership? Where is the voice of reasoning? I don’t blame these kids either, but who is mentoring these kids? Is anyone helping them understand the consequences of their actions, and giving appropriate guidance? I see an ambitious group of kids wanting to support a good cause, but they need leadership and guidance. I’m just not sure a lot was accomplished here. This team is struggling as historic levels, its easy to take your eyes off the real problem and focus on something so emotionally driven. Winners keep their focus on whats right in front of them and their goals… Leadership and guidance, lets get with it coaches.
Dignity at what price? A scholarship means forget your dignity? I don’t think so.
What are you referring to? Who said anything about sacrificing dignity? How do you think this situation has improved?
the only thing black people are good for are throwing and catching balls, other than that yall could care less, im shocked by the amount of bigots on this site. And the sad thing is your kids are being raised the same way when will the hate stop.
That’s kind of a broad brushstroke too… And equally unfair. If sports teaches us anything it’s that someone wins but someone also loses. The loser is seldom happy about it. It’s only when you can see or explore both sides that the truth can emerge.
And what exactly is the truth? How does both sides win without offending anyone then?
Would you mind being specific? I haven’t read anything that was outright bigoted, at least to the degree you suggest. You throw a bomb, but give no specifics. Just like what’s going on at Mizzou, a lot of hysteria, and short on facts, and certainly no proof but only random accusations.
Something else I’ve noticed, the more deranged the allegation, the less educated and intelligent the accuser seems to be. mrbettarthan’s logic and writing skills are about a 2nd grade level. Other than the student body president, the Mizzou protesters seem very crude and unintelligent.
On one hand, we have a black student that has been elected president of a student body that is 80% white.
On the other hand, that black student body president claims he was yelled at by white people, who may or may not have even been students.
Ask yourself which of those two things gives a clearer, broader and more honest picture of the racial environment at the University of Missouri.
Certainly Mizzou is probably no better or worse than any other university, but that doesn’t mean there’s isn’t a negative environment that needs addressed.
There are probably negative environments in every part of life. Is racism just for black people? I am sure there are lots of issues that need to be addressed at the U of Missouri. If we start going tic for tax on everything, we might just as well have all black schools and all white schools. I hate to tell everyone there are always gonna be racist and changing university president is not gonna change much. So what do you do if someone makes a racial slur at you? I mean we do have freedom of speech. How does a university president control that? You cant. If we start taking away our rights, we might as well live in russia. Life is not all sunshine and lollipops. Everyone needs to grow up and put your big boy britches on.
Now the Tigers can go lose to a bunch of Mormans, that should be interesting. Absolutely NO spine to be found in any person involved, so Wolfe is gone. You know what, I think the BIG XII is actually thinking of being 12 again. Please go back.
Send these cry babies back to the Big 10. This is not the SEC. You can take your garbage back to where it came from. This letter was nothing more than a list of “give me demands”. while the white kids are studying their asses off getting academic scholarships the black kids are pissed because they missed their athletic ones. Now the white kids go to school for free for having better work ethic and character. GTFO. This is all trash. Arkansas will never have a rivalry with Mizzou simply because this school is not on the same level. Its funny how every school in the real south seems to get a long just fine. But up in Mizzou there is suddenly racial tension. go on. If you want something work for it. Simple as that. There is no reason that you should be able to use your race to destroy what another man worked over 20 years for. For what? Because you want some handouts? Time will tell your disaster…. Be proud now. The most notable thing any of you bums will accomplish in your entire life is get an innocent man fired from a job he truly loved.
