The next NCAA football video game will allow active FBS players to appear in the game, according to a report.

That’s long been the goal of the next college football video game, but there’s now a path to it becoming a reality. Per ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, players will have the ability to ‘opt-in’ to being apart of the game in future years. Per the report, EA Sports has an agreement with OneTeam Partners that will allow players to have their name and likeness appear in the game — and be compensated for it.

Details regarding specific financial payments for each individual player are still being finalized, according to the report. The report also says that some players could have their face scan included in the game.

This is a major hurdle in the return of EA Sports’ flagship college football video game, which has been discontinued for nearly a decade now. The last game, NCAA14, was released on July 9, 2013.

The next version is expected to be released in the summer of 2024. Its release was originally targeted for this summer, but the date was ultimately pushed back to 2024.

“That’s the best date for us to bring the game that we think is going to meet or exceed our player expectations,” EA Sports vice president Daryl Holt told ESPN back in November of 2022. “And cover the breadth and scale of what we want in the game. We’re trying to build a very immersive college football experience.”

EA Sports initially announced the return of its college football video game series back in 2021.
